Apparently I’m not done rambling about Hacks s4 despite posting a bunch of thoughts earlier. I’ve been seeing the sentiment that Deborah was treating Ava badly in 4x10 and being disappointing or gross for abusing substances (I’m obviously paraphrasing here, and trying not to vaguepost too egregiously) and that 4x10 was anticlimactic and a backslide and disappointing after the incredible finale-esque intensity of 4x9, and I feel so differently about it that I think I’m gonna try to write out my thoughts as to why that is!
I think Deborah is really scared.
She has always looked out for herself. She said herself, early in her relationship with Ava, that “there is no line.” But she found the line, and did not cross it. After achieving her dream and surpassing all hopes for how well the show would do (except, of course, her own hopes, and Ava’s hopes), she made a decision that was both perfectly in-character and a massive departure from all the other times when she’s made progress or taken great strides in her work or overcame challenges precisely because she was looking out for herself. And all along, Ava’s been causing her to question whether she was always respecting herself while looking out for Number One, and those little critiques and questions are in the mix as she’s exhibited great character growth but is now spiraling in ways that are very disrespectful to her brain and body.
It makes so much sense to me that Deborah would stall on working on new material despite suggesting to Ava that they’ll be finding their next thing together in 4x9. (She’s just given up what she thought would be the ultimate culmination of what she’d worked for, and while she’s put a lot of work into finding an exploitable loophole so she can perform again, it doesn’t really feel like she’s let herself mourn.) It also makes sense to me that she’d escape into alcohol; she’s always liked to drink quite a bit, but this feels like desperate escapism rather than debauchery (even if she’s very careful to make it look debaucherous and fun when she’s in front of Ava). I think she’s terrified to feel anything deep or dark for longer than a few seconds right now, hence all the cookies in bed and airplane bottles poured into Diet Coke and giggling about how many cocktails she’s had.
And for all that she is critical of Ava (in ways she ought to turn around on herself) and for all that she’s procrastinating all her feelings and really putting the “non-linear” into non-linear progress, I think it’s really exceptionally notable that she never once articulates REGRET. She knows she made the right choice in quitting Late Night. She knows she wouldn’t have been able to forgive herself if she hadn’t. She knows she prioritized the right person. She’s making mistakes left and right and she’s deeply depressed and she’s falling back into the “conniving” that was always more fun when it was in cahoots with other people and she’s struggling. But she doesn’t betray Ava or herself by letting her sadness turn into wishing she hadn’t done the right thing. That feels huge to me.
A lot of movies end directly after the climax; the main character takes their big stand, and it’s exciting and intense and powerful, and we leave the theater still full of adrenaline. I think it’s really important that 4x10 was 4x10 and not 5x1. The aftermath of Deborah’s decision is a part of this story. And I found it interesting and touching to watch Deborah and Ava kinda suck at navigating the aimless misery of being in a mutually-beneficial partnership that prioritizes comedy over literally everything else here in a stretch of months in which nothing’s really that funny.

I don't think I agree. Flint is full of contradictions, he wanted both. His journey starting and ending with thomas was essentially an arduous road of self-discovery. that self-discovery encompassed several things - sexuality, domesticity, political ideology, warriorhood, his immense affinity for love and forgiveness and immense affinity for vengeance and destruction. everything he encountered along his arc was in service of actualizing these different aspects of himself, unfortunately at the expense of great loss.... but well, in a gritty story, a hero archetype's hero journey is going to be full of loss. regardless, at his end he comes full circle, which in silver's narration is interpreted as a regression to his past self, but from the standpoint of the audience who got to see 4 seasons of his evolution, is more of a progression to an evolved state. he's back walking up to thomas hamilton, but this time with an elevated level of understanding, of who he is, what he wants and what he believes in, due to everything that he's experienced and been forced to confront. at the start of his story he was externally free and internally imprisoned. at the end of his story he is now externally imprisoned, but can now have a chance of internal freedom in all its completeness, which was never available to him before. and that is a vastly underrated W. yes he lost everything and went though 10 years of tragedy and trauma. yes it was also a victory.
i get why people see plantation ending as a purely tragic ending for flint but idk not me the more I think it. yes the revolution was lost yes the empire is victorious. yes he lost everything he worked for and believed in and all his sacrifices. yes he was betrayed by someone he trusted in a final re-enactment of his trauma. yes said betrayal resulted in indefinite imprisonment under said empire. yes he now has a better shot at peace than ever before yes it's a happy ending for him.
#i guess we should be asking which would you rather want. internal imprisonment with a chance at external freedom#or external imprisonment with a chance at internal freedom#i know which one I would choose. no competition#but i think that's a salient point to flint's arc to consider#ik people tend to lean into the colonialism and freedom fighting themes of the show. and for good reason#but this isn't a historical account of actual history. these characters aren't real. they're ideas.#and what those ideas represent are far more interesting to me. anyways#I don’t think we can say for certain what happens to flint next. but that kiss in the sunlight also just isn’t a kiss it’s a symbol of hope#and that’s how I see his ending truly. a hopeful one .#and for a character who seemed to be dated from the beginning for endless misery. I’d call that a happy ending indeed#*fated lol I’m on mobile I’m not correcting typos#it’s very fitting that his road ends with kissing thomas bc self-actualization is what thomas represents to him#anyway black sails said the real W is falling in love with yourself. kinda. to me!#I could talk about 4x10 all day it’s such a prism of layers …..

Mentalist Trivia - Stunts
Patrick Jane
Simon had to drive with his eyes bandaged for Bloodshot 1x16 but the stunt team had everything set up so that there would be no injuries.
Simon also did the drowning scene in Fugue in Red 4x10 and this lake is on the Warner Bros lot! The scene was filmed on a Friday on Halloween night.
In Red Sails in the Sunset 5x08, Simon performed the car accident by shooting the accident in reverse and using a fork lift. He directed this episode and had to persuade the cast and crew that it was necessary for him to do this stunt.
Simon did the fence stunt in Blue Bird 6x22 and subsequently hurt his ankle leading to Jane having a swollen ankle.
Simon did the dunking in the bath-tub in Orange Blossom Ice Cream 7x03 himself as he was a surfer.
Teresa Lisbon
In 18-5-4 2x21, Robin has to run on the pier but she fell over during the filming of that scene. If you look closely, you can see her swollen and taped hand in the following scenes.
When Robin had to fall into the river in Red Gold 3x15, the temperature was only 32 degrees F/0 degrees C!
Robin injured her wrist before the filming of Red John's Rules 5x22 so had to hold the gun from her left hand as he right was in a cast. Karl Sonneburg, the LAPD Technical Advisor for the show, was amazed as Robin could aim and shoot perfectly from her LEFT HAND!
The explosion in Fire and Brimstone 6x06 was dangerous for Robin's stunt actor but thankfully there were no injuries.
Kimball Cho
Tim was known for being the one who was best at their initial CBI training for the roles. He would always be given the job of tackling and cuffing suspects.
When Tim filmed the scene in Red Snapper 4x22 where Cho loses it and attacks the drug dealers, he had to hold back from accidentally harming the guest actors and causing an injury.
Grace Van Pelt
Amanda actually got to drive for part of the car chase scene in Red Menace 2x04!
Wayne Rigsby
Owain had to do a lot of running for the show as he was the designated runner out of Tim, Amanda and himself.
In Red John's Rules 5x22, he had to run after a suspect and they blocked off several streets to film this chase.

" I didn't want this to be about a man"
literally the whole season was about killing said man....its the only thing that happened
I was just driving around thinking about this. Nothing happens!!! I have forgotten 87% of the season we just watched.
I adore the waterpark ep. Like, genuine remaining affection that annoys me actually, because I wish I could slice the whole season out of my brain and just go back to 4x10 (which I’m mostly able to do).
But aside from that and a few scattered scenes where Max got to do some really great acting, the season was a rehash of old storylines told in a much less interesting way than the originals, characters popping in for useless cameos, and extremely on the nose speeches.
I was sitting here trying hard to think of a single actual plot-important thing that happens aside from the preposterous Boston falling in a few days bit, and it’s just the Jezebels mess left I guess? I admit I enjoyed that ep and the mission with June and Moira together, but that was when I thought it was going somewhere! Those letters Nick saved for June that caused the whole Rube Goldberg machine of events that ended in his death are most likely in a dusty corner of that Mayday camp now, totally forgotten…

Note: This is specifically for calls - either ones that were just heard by a dispatcher, or ones that the 118 showed up to - not just horrible events (which is why Buck/Chris getting lost in the tsunami, Eddie's getting buried underground, Hen accidentally hitting that young woman with the ambulance, etc is not included).

❛ hold still. this might sting a little. ❜
Day 2 of the Advent Prompt Challenge! Set during 4x10 of Chicago Med and this also falls in my Voight Family Values Universe but before Connor actually defined his relationship with Sarah.
For the first time since they started sleeping together, Sarah found herself flinching away from Connor's hands. "You should've stayed last night." He muttered low enough for just the curly-haired brunette to hear, after he all but pushed Natalie Manning out of the way and took over the treatment of her bullet wound himself, "Then I could've driven you and this wouldn't have happened."
Sarah couldn't do much more than roll her brown eyes at him and shake her head. It was such a guy thing to say and caveman reaction to have.
"If I hadn't been there, then April, Doris or Monique could've been hit and hurt instead. I'm glad it was me." She muttered back.
"I am so sorry, Sarah." Natalie unknowingly cut in just as Connor's eyes darkened into murky storm clouds and narrowed at her. She passed Dr. Rhodes another piece of gauze so he could staunch the bleeding. It had slowed some, but not enough for the doctors around her to quit tending to her. "It's terrifying to be shot at. I can't believe you were hit."
"Neither can I," Connor's agreed darkly. Another eye roll.
"I'm fine," she reassured both of the doctors. But it was aimed more towards the man who regularly shared his bed with her. Then she looked fully at Dr. Manning because she could already hear Connor's response to her next question in her head.
"I'd like to go to work, if you'll sign off on it."
"Really?" Monique and April asked in unison from their places behind her while Connor said, "Sarah, you were shot at and hit. You should go home."
(Neither Sarah nor Connor saw the puzzled look Dr. Manning and the two nurses shared. Since they were at odds with each other, they didn't realize they were using a degree of familiarity, Gaffney hadn't yet seen from them.)
"I'm fine, Connor." She emphasized to him. It wasn't the first time a weapon was aimed at her. Then she saw Alvin Olinsky turn a corner. She held in a sigh. Because if Uncle Alvin was here then her day just got that much more difficult. They locked eyes and he made a beeline for her.
Sarah held in her eye roll and another sigh as the older man stopped just before entering the treatment bay. "Hey kid, heard you had quite the morning."
Now all doctors and nurses minus Sarah were sharing looks of puzzlement because they had never heard this degree of familiarity from Reese and Detective Olinsky. (That they knew of.)
"Honestly, I'm surprised you're not Dad or Erin,"
Uncle Alvin smirked, "I'm as close as they can get because Commander Crowley knows exactly who you belong to."

bbb s4 / aaa s1
just sending this in ask format is growing increasingly untenable.
I...have tried to organize this a little bit. The first draft was much worse.
I keep forgetting to mention how weird it is to regularly hear the attack SFX from Alpha Centauri (though it is slightly different in Angel, which is also weird).
Xander should get more mileage out of his Halloween military experience.
I really liked Adam a lot more than I expected to.
Spike is great: still ““evil”” but unable to hurt anybody, is great.
Buffy Episode thoughts
Buffy 4x4
“Creatures of the night shy away from Halloween. They find it all much too crass.” lmao. Halloween is a night of safety not because the monsters are scared but because they think that you’re cringe.
“I tend to hear the actual words that people say and accept them at face value” I rarely have occasion to say this, but I’m proud of Xander.
I like how Buffy nearly murders a guy because he’s wearing a costume. Was it a very realistic costume, or do demons really look like cheap Halloween costumes?
Buffy 4x10 How dare Giles cheat on Joyce!
What did the Gentlemen wear before suits? Did they invent suits?
Revelation 15:1 doesn’t have anything to do with a plague of silence. And it’s Revelation, singular.
Who wrote this? Joss? Fie on Joss.
It’s pretty cool that they got a voiceover from Stephen Hawking.
Probably Unpopular Opinion: Hush should have gone without a soundtrack, or at least less of one.
Shorter episode thoughts in re Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Buffy 4x3 "The gem of amara is like the vampire holy grail." Giles, buddy, vampires are Christian. Or, they were Christian in the 10th century when they were looking for the gem of amara, anyway (Spike definitely does not go to vampire church). I'm pretty sure that the holy grail is the vampire holy grail.
Willow’s crusader costume is cute. This reminds me of when I had a crush on — “I’m Joan of Arc!” Well then, no wonder.
Buffy 4x7 “Buffy likes cheese.” Does she? I’m not certain I’ve ever seen her eat cheese, let alone express fondness for it.
Buffy 4x8 Is there anything to say about the Thanksgiving episode that hasn’t been said before? It sure is something. Sucks that there are some incredible bits in here.
Buffy 4x11 “I don’t see a scratch on you,” says guy who doesn’t have a scratch on him. Holy shit, Gravity Falls reference!? The Buffy writers were ahead of their time. (checks notes) By twelve years.
The Giles & Spike team-up in 4x12 is fantastic, but they are really making the “Giles is her dad” subtext just plain text. Why is he not dating Joyce? They didn’t even try to date, because Joyce says that her last boyfriend was the robot! Joyce, why aren’t you dating the hot librarian that sings like a god, and fucks like a stevedore, and – incredibly important detail here – already loves Buffy as if she were his own daughter? They’re clearly physically compatible (which they, ahem, rather explicitly brought up again this season), they have overlapping interests, and he’s already aware of the Slayer thing, so there won’t be any awkward lies about Buffy’s extracurriculars or terrible revelations or whatever.
4x15 It’s incredible how Faith gets therapy in the worst ways possible. Being able to step into Buffy’s literal shoes for a bit seems to have done some good for her – showed her that, like, it’s possible for normal people to actually love each other.
4x21 Xander: “Does anybody else miss the mayor?” I do too, buddy. I do too. God, that video that he recorded for Faith... He just wanted to be a big snake, and the Scoobies murdered him for it.
4x22 Giles & Spike team-up: literally a dream.
General thoughts re Angel the Untitled Spin-off
Angel pushing a vampire out the window of a skyscraper in broad daylight: incredible.
Do you think that Angel is still a Vampire Christian? I mean, the Master seemed to like him (pre-re-ensoulment) and he even seems to have a preference for Latin exorcisms instead of some witchy thing.
I don’t like Doyle. If they needed a Xander on Angel then they should have sent Xander to LA. Never mind, he redeemed himself, in more ways that one.
Poor Doyle. He just needs to meet a monsterfucker. Oh no, he was married to one already. I guess it’s true what they say, and it’s no use marrying somebody who would fuck you if you wouldn’t fuck yourself.
The bachelor’s party episode was pretty good – especially with the revelation that Doyle’s marriage was ruined by his own insecurities – but I thought, when the fiance said that the ritual hadn’t been performed in years, that the demon-anthropologist lady was going to discover + explain that they were misinterpreting things, it was all symbolic, something like that. Or, since it’s noted that some of the fiance’s family aren’t terribly observant in other ways, that they’d be convinced to let things go. I guess the writers just really wanted a love triangle with Doyle and Cordelia.
You know, there’s all this talk of evil from demons, down to when the Nazi demons say that tolerating “half-breed” demons is “as good as giving up the call to evil altogether” and “as good as becoming human ourselves.” Now, souls seem to be related to the conscience (Angel’s morality depends on whether he’s got a soul, the bad kid from 1x14 doesn’t have a soul) but it’s possible for demons to be decent people, so what’s going on here? It feels like “evil” is a label that demons use in rejection of whatever the soul confers, but also I’m fairly sure that the writers never sat down to work out a complex demonic philosophy of opposition or whatever, and this is just fannish epicycles.
I hate this “Angel can get into any building in LA via the sewers” thing. We know that indirect sunlight is fine, so just give him an umbrella.
<3 Faith. First time I've really really liked Angel, he's so good for this, I'm sad to hear through the grape vine that she's going to go away for a while.
Angel 4x3 Spike dropped the ball when he called Buffy "Slutty the Vampire Slayer" instead of "Slutty the Vampire Layer." Genuinely what the fuck, how did the writers miss that one? Was it for the alliteration? "Slutty" is a positively tortured replacement for "Buffy," Slutty the Vampire Slayer < Buffy the Vampire Layer, every time, if they had to pick just one then they picked wrong.
Angel 1x6 left me sort of mad that the sensitivity training was from a baddie. Some of it was decent! Nobody under his influence told a goddamn lie – that was brave, that was inappropriate for the situation, he is hiding behind humor, an act of kindness can be manly, etc. (What they did under his influence is another story) Well, alright, people said some untrue things in the last ten minutes. But before that, it was all good! Also police brutality probably went down a bit. This just tells me that we need, maybe, twenty-percent demon magic in our lives, and not the whole whammy.
Angel 1x9 I don’t like how the fascist demons hate demons with human blood. In Graduation Day Pt 1 we learn that all the demons on Earth have at least a little human blood. I don’t think this is supposed to be a subtle mistake in their ideology because the episode is hardly subtle about these demons being fascists, and you’d think that one of the characters would ask, “How come these fascist demons, being partly descended from humans like all the other demons, don’t get melted by the Human-Melting Lantern that melts other demons?
Angel 1x14 I am trying to not pick every nit I see, but when Angel and Wesley find out that the priest at the local church is dead… (1) how is there not another priest at this church, when he died six months ago; (2) why do they not go to one of several hundred other Catholic churches in Los Angeles; and (3) why do they not look for somebody who is not a Catholic priest?
Angel 1x15 Kate, finding out that a dude is a demon: “Well I guess I can forget about reading him his rights” no you fucking cannot, that demon was probably born in this country.
Angel 1x15 “although technically demons aren’t otherworldly, I mean in fact they were here first” #LandBack
Angel 1x16 “Did you know that there are a dozen species [of demon] indigenous to LA County alone?” Indigenous! But for real, there actually are a legion of demons in LA. I assume that this is a consequence of the Hellmouth being a hundred miles away, but still, if the masquerade ever breaks then I expect demons to be a noteworthy minority that local politicians have to keep in mind.
Angel 1x18 “We’re not in the business of giving up on people.” Cool. But earlier: “That’s not a person. It’s a demon.” :screaming: :screaming: :screaming:
I really fucking hate prophecies.
Cordelia
Some things about the Buffangelverse haven’t aged well, but Cordelia’s willingness to live in a haunted, deadly apartment because it’s rent-controlled has only gotten more relatable.
It feels like Cordelia lost a little bit of character development. What possible reason does she have to say “Crybuffy” instead of “Crybaby”? I don’t think she did that kind of thing even in the original series.
I appreciate her focus on finances. You would think that if The Powers That Be are going to keep sending Angel Investigations to save people who can’t pay to be saved, then they could at least occasionally give Doyle the winning lotto numbers or something. You can’t save people if you’re dead because you ran out of food, and two-thirds half two-thirds of the company still need to eat.
Oz…
So, I fell asleep halfway through “Wild at Heart,” then woke up near the beginning of “The Initiative” without realizing that I’d slept more than a few minutes and I was in a whole new episode (the downside to being able to sleep anywhere is that…when you’re tired enough, you could sleep anywhere), and back when I was very young I caught part of an episode that (from what I could recall) involved Oz, werewolves, and a secret U.S. government agency, so I thought that Oz disappeared because the Initiative nabbed him (and…put a mind control chip in his head? my recollection from the long-ago time was vague) and all this talk of him “withdrawing from class” and “sending for his stuff” was a dirty Initiative lie.
I mean, would Oz really ghost his gf like that? My Oz? Sweet, lovable, dependable Oz?
Cue la surprise when that laconic motherfucker just shows up at the door from his adventures in fucking Tibet.
It feels bad that the Oz/Will/Tara love triangle got resolved mostly because Oz just skipped out again. Will should have had the opportunity to dump his ass before he decided to skip out again, and Tara should have gotten the sure knowledge that she wasn’t just Will’s consolation prize.
I read that Oz left the show because he wasn’t getting enough opportunities to Do Stuff. This is terrible. They really should have sent Xander to LA. I mean, I don’t hate Xander, but I certainly don’t like him as much as I liked Oz. At least let Xander get more mileage out of his Halloween military experience so that he can do something interesting.
The Initiative
How is there an entire underground facility beneath Sunnydale? Why does it exclusively employ early twentysomethings for its muscle.
I was sure we were going to find out that the Initiative lads were clones, maybe with fake memories and maybe just cover stories. They called Professor Walsh “mom,” describe each other as family, and except for the doctors they’re all kids very young adults, even the ones in leadership roles (except for the colonel who later comes in to supervise).
What exactly is the organizational structure of the Initiative? Riley’s rank is “agent,” one of his subordinates is “private,” and Maggie Walsh is called ”mom” “professor.” I won’t pick at Xander’s mention of “Secret Forces,” because that’s clearly a minor mistake in the script, but overall it feels like the writers know as much about the military as they do about the price of tea in China.
It just bugs me…
What is this shit about Willow Wicca and darkness? She talks about dark powers, about calling on the ruler of darkness, et cetera et cetera, as if she hasn’t spent three and a half years helping Buffy to fight against (to quote the intro voiceover from the first two seasons) the “forces of darkness.” You’d at least expect this to be a point of contention in an episode by this point.
Also really bad how the First Slayer is accompanied by animal sounds.
It’s really weird how, the first time we’re introduced to Angel’s curse, we’re told that he was cursed by the Romani – and then, every single time they came up again (even amongst themselves) the shows use the slur. I can understand “just using the slur” and I can understand “using the slur in a sort of, ‘you know, the g*****s,’ way and saying ‘Romani’ or ‘Roma’ or whatever afterward, now that the viewer knows what we’re talking about,” but it boggles my mind that they use “Romani” just once, the very first time, and have failed to use it again for five seasons.
The worldbuilding in Buffy hasn’t been incredible, but Angel (the series) really introduced a lot of problems, most of them related to demons.

SEASON 4 RAFE/KIARA FIC RECS
—
eating and being eaten belong to the terrible secret of love by gabrieeella
"Hey, can I help you?"
Her hair's pulled into two fitful braids. There are wild curls springing out from her bandana. Everything about her is always so rebellious, so tediously uncontainable.
"I don't know, can you?"
Her eyes flick up in alarm at his voice. He smiles. He likes that he can make all that warm, sanctimonious blood freeze.
Or, now that Ward's gone, Rafe accidentally telescopes his toxic devotion onto someone else.

Revenge.
Can it be achieved without changing a person completely? Kiara wasn't sure, and at that moment she sure as hell didn't care. Her mind is set on one thing and one thing only, taking down Chandler Groff.
And who better to help her on this journey then the self-proclaimed killer, Rafe Cameron?
—
forever young by Hollidayy
“Alea iacta est,” Pope says. It’s all over. They’re just six shadows on the pavement. The sirens are like a ghostly howl now, the blue lights so far that it feels like the streets have fallen into a starless night. John B furrows his brow. “What did you just call me?” “It’s Latin. The die is cast,” he explains gloomily. “It means there’s no turning back.”
(i.e. the aftermath of 4x10.)

“It’s fitting,” he laughs, a loud cynical sound.
“A tiara for a princess.”
Kiara wants revenge. Rafe is more than happy to oblige. What they find is altogether different.

Anything But Your Enemy by DramioneShipperz
Revenge was a double-edged sword. It's a poison that eventually dissolves into regret. Ill-gotten satisfaction was fleeting afterall.
One year after J.J.’s death, Kie struggles to cope with blood-stained hands as she finds relief and acceptance with the one person she had sworn she would always despise. Rafe Cameron. A broken entitled Kook and a murderer.
Between chance encounters, Rafe finds he can’t ignore the distinct feeling of guilt driving him to protect Kiara Carrera from the Kooks and herself. He never expected to learn his attraction for her wasn't as one-sided as he thought. Even if she was part-Pogue.
Kie and Rafe find they could help each other. What better way to cut through the feeling of being numb and alone than to sleep with the enemy? Literally.

I now know the depths I reach are limitless by Summertime_saddness
“I know what this is.” Rafe pulled the shirt over his head, his toned torso didn’t contain a single scar. In another life, Kiara might have been self conscious, instead she did the same, revealing the same stained bra she’d been wearing for weeks.
“You’re sad about your boyfriend,” he continued, pushing her down against the makeshift bed, reaching out to finger the yellowing strap of her bra, “and that bitch Sofia screwed me over.”

PROACTIVE by pennedbylisse
There's a lot of things wrong with Rafe Cameron. For starters, he's emotionally volatile, cognitively unstable. Then, there's the whole era of being a junkie, followed shortly by his murderer phase, then by his greedy man-of-the-house, ends-justify-the-means-entrepreneur thing he had going on when he melted a historical artifact and sold it out. There's a lot more wrong with Rafe Cameron than originally thought.
It's exactly why he doesn't mind soiling his hands a little further. Not if it means he can preserve Kiara Carrera's innocence.
Try as he might to explain the protective impulses he has over his sister's childhood best friend, he falls short of answers. He'd kill for her, that he knows, on this primal level. He will kill for her.

It gets better with time by Roses4Mai
Two years ago, JJ Maybank died in the Moroccan desert. Two years ago, his friends had to get used to the fact he was gone forever.
Two years ago, Kiara Carrera lost her soulmate.
Two years after, she's finally healing.
She has moved on.
Too bad JJ didn't get the memo.
----
JJ comes back to Outer Banks two years after his "death." When he arrives, he realizes things have drastically changed.

The cataract whirling down the precipice, Elbows down rocks and, shouldering, thunders through. Roars, howls, and stifled murmurs never cease; Hell and its agonies seem hid below. Thick rolls the mist, that smokes and falls in dew; The trees and greenwood wear the deepest green. Horrible mysteries in the gulph stare through, Roars of a million tongues, and none knows what they mean.
